July 29th, 2015 Windows 10 was officially released. For the first year, if at this time you own Windows versions 7 or 8, Microsoft will offer you an upgrade to Windows 10 free of charge. Some editions are excluded: Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT/RT 8.1. If you are not eligible for this offer, Microsoft offers the possibility to obtain the newest.

Updates are always free as long as you own the device.

Microsoft announced that the release of Windows 10 will be deployed gradually in the form of waves, matter of making sure that everything goes as planned. So if you book your copy, when your turn comes , your current Windows will download Windows 10 and notify you when you can install it.

What Do You Have to Lose?

Widgets such as the clock and weather can no longer be displayed on the desktop. Also, games such as Solitaire, Minesweeper, and Hearts as we know them will no longer exist. You will have to download new versions via the “Windows Store”.

USB floppy drives will also not be recognized by Windows 10. You will have to download the new drivers via “Windows Update”. The same goes for the application “One Drive” as well as “Windows Essentials”.

Note : If you possess an illegal (pirated) version of Windows 7 or 8, you may also upgrade to Windows 10 for free. However, this will not change your operating system’s license status. An illegal copy stays illegal even if upgraded. A non-original Windows copy is not certified by Microsoft and does not have a valid license and support from Microsoft is not available.

So, “hackers” who install Windows 10 will not benefit from Microsoft support, future possible additions reserved for paying customers, no access to technical support, etc.

However, Microsoft will offer owners of a pirated version a simple way to authenticate (and thus pay) for their copy through the Windows Store.
